The entertainment phenomenon has been creating a buzz and breaking records nonstop since the original movie's premiere in January 2006, and has changed the face of the television industry as we know it today.

This summer,
High School Musical is back with a sequel that features all-new original music and more challenging funky choreography. OnlineTickets.com has all the High School Musical news and theatre tickets you need to keep yourself busy until the next sequel in line gets released!

“A ‘Fabulous’ Premiere"

It's safe to say that High School Musical 2 "bopped to the top" and made television history during its premiere on August 17. A whopping 17.24 million people tuned in to watch HSM2 that Friday - to put that number into perspective, the original High School Musical received 7.8 million views back in January 2006! Not only has "HSM2" become the highest-rated and most-watched Disney Channel Original Movie ever, it has also become the highest-rated basic cable program of all time, beating out ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast on October 23, 2006, and has also beat out TNT's premiere of Crossfire Trail in 2001, making HSM2 the most-watched made-for-cable movie ever!

Encore, Encore!

High School Musical's DVD release broke records last year when it sold 1.2 million copies of its "Encore Edition" during its first six days on the shelves – making HSM the fastest selling television movie ever. The premiere of High School Musical 2 already put its place in television history, and its DVD release is expected to do the same by breaking the record of its predecessor. High School Musical 2: The Extended Edition DVD will include music videos, behind the scenes featurettes, and several deleted scenes, including a new musical number entitled "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a." Watch out for High School Musical 2: The Extended Edition as it hits the shelves December 11th.

A Musical Graduation

High School Musical is graduating to the next level of entertainment showbiz! After the success of HSM2, Disney couldn't pass up on the opportunity to make yet another sequel – with a twist. Fans can expect to see the next installment of HSM not in their living rooms, but on the big screen in late 2008 or early 2009. Don't expect too many things to change, however. While fans may have a clearer and closer view of Zac Efron's abs this time around, they can still expect tune-tapping songs and the sensational choreography that made the first two HSM movies entertainment phenomenons. Zac and the rest of the crew – including Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, Ashley Tisdale, and Monique Coleman – are expected to return for this second sequel that is rumored to tackle high school graduation.

Zac Attack

Zac Efron is everywhere these days! You can find the HSM hottie on the cover of this month's Rolling Stone and CosmoGirl, where he spills about everything from the transition to fame to playing golf to his rumored girlfriend, HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens. Not only has Zac appeared in two summer movie sensations, Hairspray and High School Musical 2, he continues to score new movie deals left and right! Zac Efron is signed on to play a grown-up trapped in a high school senior's body in a new Freaky Friday-style movie "Seventeen," is rumored to star in a "Footloose" remake, and was snapped by paparazzi looking at a script entitled "Me and Orson Welles" earlier this month.

From Sarcastic to Sassy to Shy

Disney 'it' girl Ashley Tisdale also has plenty on her plate these days. In addition to co-sharing a cover with Zac Efron on September's issue of CosmoGirl, where she models hot fall fashions and dishes out on HSM2 secrets, the blonde starlet is set to appear in a new movie entitled "Picture This." The movie will feature Ashley Tisdale as a shy, unpopular girl who works at a Petco and deals with a domineering father – a role certainly different from her portrayals of sarcastic Maddie on Disney Channel's sitcom The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and sassy Sharpay in High School Musical. In addition to acting, Ashley Tisdale has also been busy filming music videos for the upcoming September rerelease of her debut album, "Headstrong."

More HSM 411

Vanessa Hudgens can be seen as the featured face of Neutrogena this year, and she hopes to release a new album sometime in the future after the success of her debut album, "V." Oleysa Rulin, who plays shy pianist Kelsi in HSM, will star alongside Jessica Simpson in 2008's "Major Movie Star," which is currently being filmed. To promote his debut album "Another Side," Corbin Bleu is currently touring at NextFest with other Disney Channel sensations Aly and AJ and Nickelodeon's Drake Bell.
NextFest ends at the end of August, so reserve your tickets now to see Corbin, Aly and AJ, and Drake Bell in concert.
