LIONS AND OFFENSE AND BEARS, OH MY: Lions vs. Bears By Andrea de Vera OnlineTickets.com
In NFL Week 4, the Detroit Lions (3-1) hosted the struggling Chicago Bears (1-3) inside Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan Sunday.
Who Came, Saw, and Conquered: The Lions roared past the Bears 37-27. In an offensive explosion, both teams combined for a record-breaking 48 points in the fourth quarter.
Lookin’ Good: Lions QB Jon Kitna
With all the numbers working in his favor Sunday, Kitna completed nearly 84 percent of his passes (20-of-24), amassed 247 yards through the air, connected with seven different targets, added two touchdown passes, and committed zero turnovers. Kitna’s one fumble and -1 rushing yards? No harm, no foul.
Seen Better Days: The Bears’ defense…and offense.
Despite the Bears’ 13-3 lead after the third quarter, the Bears’ injury-riddled defense was outscored 34-14 in the final 15 minutes of play. Newly instated – and seemingly pass-happy – QB Brian Griese completed 34-of-52 passes, rendering the Bears’ run game nearly non existent.
Keep an Eye On: The Lions’ 3-1 record
Under first-year head coach Ron Marinelli, the Lions have already tallied three wins on the season, equaling their entire win total of 2006 (3-13). With victories over the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears, the Lions currently sit in second place in the NFC North.
Week 5 Watch: Chicago Bears v. Green Bay Packers
The reeling Chicago Bears will have to face ageless wonder, Brett Favre, and the 4-0 Green Bay Packers inside Lambeau Field. If the 2006 NFC Champion Bears want to avoid dropping to 1-4 on the season, the Bears will need to get defensive against Favre, who threw for 344 yards against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday. The Bears’ will need to run a more balanced offensive attack – meaning less passing from Griese and more touches for RB Cedric Benson.
