RUSHIN’ ROYALTY: Vikings v. Bears

In NFL Week 6, the Chicago Bears (2-4) hosted the Minnesota Vikings (2-3) inside Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois Sunday.

Who Came, Saw, and Conquered: After chipping in a tie-breaking 54-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game, the mighty Vikings rushed to a 34-31 victory over the Bears.

Lookin’ Good: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson

In a record-setting day, the rookie RB amassed 224 rushing yards (fifth most by a rookie in NFL history), 128 return yards, and 9 receiving yards for 361 total all-purpose yards (third-highest total in NFL history). With three TDs on the day, Peterson’s 53-yard kickoff return to the Bears 38 helped set up Ryan Longwell’s fourth-quarter, game-winning FG.

Seen Better Days: The Bears defense

The Bears’ usually sound-and-solid run defense looked awfully porous against the Vikings – allowing 311 yards and four touchdowns (all coming from more than 30 yards out). Shredding, evading, and outrunning Bears tackles, Peterson scored on runs of 67 yards in the second quarter, 73 yards in the third, and 35 yards in the fourth.

Keep an Eye On: The Vikings’ and Bears’ young talents

With 607 rushing yards so far in the season, the Vikings’ rookie RB Adrian Peterson is on pace to surpass Eric Dickerson’s record-setting 1,808 rushing yards as a rookie in 1983. Devin Hester –the Bears’ second-year receiver and arguably the league’s most exciting player today – dazzled with an 89-yard punt return for a TD and an 81-yard, game-tying reception with 1:38 left in the game.

Week 7 Watch: New England Patriots (6-0) v. Miami Dolphins (0-6)

In division play, the AFC South leading Colts (5-0) and Jaguars (4-1) battle for the top spot, while the Texans-Titans game features DE Mario Williams and QB Vince Young (1st and 3rd picks, respectively, in the 2006 NFL Draft). Yet another interesting Week 7 contest transpires between the AFC East’s undefeated Patriots and the winless Dolphins inside Dolphin Stadium. If the Pats can continue their winning ways, this could be the year that a team goes 17-0 with a Super Bowl Championship – a feat no NFL team has achieved since the 1972 Dolphins.
