In 1958, friends Walter Williams, Bill Isles, Jerome Pierson, Bobby Massey, William Powell and Eddie Levert formed The Triumphs. The Triumphs soon adopted the name The O’Jays and burst onto the scene with the LP Comin’ Through. The 1960s were a prosperous time for The O’Jays with hits including “One Night Affair” and “Stand in for Love”.
Though successful, The O’Jays achieved their first mega hit with “Backstabbers” from their gold-selling 1972 album Backstabbers. The 1970s also brought The O’Jays hits like “For the Love of Money”, “Give the People What They Want”, “Use ta Be My Girl” and “Livin’ for the Weekend”.
The O’Jays’ mainstream appeal faded in the late 1980s, but they continued to chart with hits like “Lovin’ You” through the early 1990s. Though The O’Jays did little recording during this time, fans flocked to shows to see The O’Jays perform live. In 2005 The O’Jays were honored with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Of the original lineup of The O’Jays, only Eddie Levert and Walter Williams remain. Joined by Eric Grant The O’Jays continue to tour and draw large crowds as a trio. Now The O’Jays are bringing and electrifying live concert to an arena near you. To be reminded of the soulful R&B sounds of the 1970s, order The O’Jays concert tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
