With the stout veteran Detroit Red Wings picking up the 2007-08 Stanley Cup the NHL rages on into the 2008-09 season. The ice of the NHL is sure to be alive with hits and amazing performances as 30 teams go for the brass ring that is the Stanley Cup. From speedy forwards to dangerous enforcers and stone wall goaltenders, the NHL is jam-packed with elite athletes. With a new class of rookies coming and young rising talent quickly developing into stars, the future of the NHL is now.

On the offensive side of the puck, the NHL is loaded like never before. C Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins seems to be the next Wayne Gretzky and could even approach the many NHL scoring records of “The Great One”. Sidney Crosby’s teammate Evgeni Malkin is another freakish scoring superstar. Other offensive superstars that will carry the NHL to glory include Joe Thornton, Alexander Ovechkin, and Dan Heatley.

Long famous for the hard hits on the defensive side of the puck, the NHL is also blessed with dozens of outstanding defensemen. The legendary veteran Nicklas Lidstrom is still feared by every NHL forward. Young Dion Phaneuf is looking to be the next great young NHL defenseman. Goaltenders able to pitch shutouts are always in demand. Goalies like Chris Osgood, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Martin Brodeur will be frustrating offenses and keeping goose eggs on scoreboards all season long.

With one of the strongest rosters in its history, the NHL will have a fantastic season in 2008 and 2009. The best news for the NHL is the number of young superstars that are already dominant. Thanks to its many great youngsters, the NHL will be in a new Golden Age for years to come. With talent young and old going for the Stanley Cup, fans of all generations can’t miss the hockey action.
