The UC Davis radio station KDVS provided a springboard for DJ Shadow’s music career. During this time DJ Shadow helped develop the unique style of hip-hop that is attributed to Solesides Record Label. Funk, rock, hip hop and more genres helped shape and mold DJ Shadow’s unique sound and DJ Shadow is often credited with being a creator of U.S. trip hop.
According to The Guinness World Records, DJ Shadow’s first full-length album Endtroducing…. is the “First Completely Sampled Album”. Endtroducing…. was released to rave reviews in 1996. DJ Shadow followed with Preemptive Strike, The Private Press and production credits on U.N.K.L.E.’s debut album Psyence Fiction.
In addition to solo work, DJ Shadow works closely with fellow DJ Cut Chemist, formerly of Jurassic 5. The DJ duo of Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow has released six albums. The most successful collaborations between DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist are Brainfreeze, Product Placement, and the 2008 release The Hard Sell.
