Mike Eli and James Young initially came together to make an acoustic jam band during their college years but quickly found that building a full band would give them a great audience. After taking on a few more members, the group became known as the Eli Young Band. The Eli Young Band found itself in the flourishing Texas Country music scene and found their Bluesy sound to be quite the marketable talent.
The Eli Young Band eventually landed an independent record deal and released album Level. The album would feature the Eli Young Band’s signature song “When It Rains”. The Eli Young Band would find a great deal of airplay in Texas and was a staple in the bar scene. Live album Live At The Jolly Fox featured the Eli Young Band putting on a trademark live show in the classic bar setting. Live At The Jolly Fox also led to a major record deal.
Album Jet Black & Jealous was a great opportunity for the Eli Young Band to get their music out. “When It Rains” was given a music-video treatment and quickly jumped around Country Music TV, radio, and the internet. “When It Rains” became a hit for the Eli Young Band and was followed up by “Always the Love Songs”. Both gave the Eli Young Band more exposure and allowed them to get great touring spots.
Through small club tours and national tours with Miranda Lambert, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, and Jack Ingram, the Eli Young Band has made its name through live music. A spot on the Austin City Limits Festival also brought a new group of fans to the Eli Young Band and set them up for a great future.
