Emmylou Harris

Details

Emmylou Harris first made her name as one of the best backing singers in the history of music. Working with the likes of Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Mark Knopfler to name a few, Emmylou Harris has been a big part of classic albums over numerous decades. Given a boatload of awards over the years, Emmylou Harris is also one of the most decorated musicians in history. Beyond all of her collaborations, Emmylou Harris has put together an excellent solo career.

Under her mentor Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris not only developed her unique voice, but gained great insight into songwriting that would become some of the deepest in music. 1975 album Pieces of The Sky launched Emmylou Harris as a solo artist. Singles “If I Could Win Your Love” and “Too Far Gone” landed Emmylou Harris on the charts for the first time. “Boulder to Birmingham” also became an Emmylou Harris classic. Emmylou Harris quickly became known for deep lyrics and a soulful voice that spanned many genres.

Joined by her backing band known as The Hot Band, Emmylou Harris gained two No. 1 hits with “Sweet Dreams” and “Together Again”. Emmylou Harris released her top-selling album Luxury Liner next, and it continued the varied and at times bizarre song selections. Singles “(You Never Can Tell) C’Est La Vie” and “Making Believe” were both hits. Over the next few decades, Emmylou Harris would rack up hits like “Two More Bottles of Wine”, “Beneath Still Waters”, “To Know Him Is To Love Him”, and “Wildflowers”.

Emmylou Harris also gained more critical acclaim as part of the landmark O’ Brother Where Art Thou? Soundtrack. The platinum-selling soundtrack was an award-magnet as well.
