Founded with Peter Gabriel on vocals, Genesis began its career with dark melodies and deep keyboard parts. After a few experimental albums, Genesis finally started cooking with gas when drummer/vocalist Phil Collins entered the scene on the 1971 album Nursery Cryme. Album Foxtrot marked the change from Pop to Progressive Rock, thanks to the 20-plus minute long song “Supper’s Ready”. Follow-up album Selling England by the Pound would go gold in the United States and set up Genesis to breakout into the mainstream.
Peter Gabriel left Genesis after the successful The Lamb Lies Down album. Phil Collins moved to lead vocalist and Genesis was ready for a new career path. Albums A Trick of the Tail and Winds & Wuthering pushed Genesis towards the mainstream. …And Then There Were Three was the platinum success Genesis was waiting for. Duke began a string of more Pop-styled albums from Genesis. Single “Turn it on Again” would mark the first major hit of Genesis’ career and helped take Duke to platinum status. Singles “Behind the Lines” and “The Duchess” were also hits.
A quartet of albums would make Genesis one of the biggest bands of the 1980s. Abacab became a multi-platinum worldwide hit, thanks to songs like “Man on the Corner” and “Abacab”. Genesis was another multi-platinum album. Invisible Touch would eventually go six-times platinum thanks to the No. 1 hit “Invisible Touch” and Adult Contemporary mainstay “In Too Deep”. We Can’t Dance was another multi-platinum release. Singles “No Son of Mine”, “Never a Time”, “I Can’t Dance”, and No. 1 hit “Hold on My Heart” plastered Genesis on the radio.
Phil Collins left Genesis to continue his solo career and the band went on hiatus. After a poor attempt to capture the magic with a new singer, Phil Collins returned to Genesis in 2007. The reunited Genesis would rock the world with the Turn It on Again: The Tour. Genesis sold out arena-after-arena and proved they were back on top. Genesis will once again hit the touring road in 2008, so order your Genesis tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
