Based on the hit Disney movie The Lion King the Broadway musical The Lion King has gone on to become a commercial success and a six-time Tony Award winner. Using a complex stage production of puppets and costumes, the cast and crew of the Lion King are able to bring the animated Disney classic to life. Not only is the story appropriate for children but the classic plot of revenge and redemption will intrigue adults as well.
The young lion cub Simba is the heir to the throne of the Lion Kingdom. In a plot to become the Lion King, Simba’s jealous uncle Scar vows to eliminate Simba and his own brother Mufasa. Scar’s plot results in the death of Simba’s father, Mufasa, and the exile of the young cub to the wilderness. Simba is taken in by a Timon and Pumba, two friends who carry young Simba into adulthood when Simba decides to take his place as the rightful Lion King.
Music from Elton John such as “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” and a rousing rendition of “The Circle of Life” will have audiences singing along to a magical soundtrack. Fantastic moving sets, props, and lighting highlight the excellent cast and moves the plot along.
