British rock band The Who was formed in 1964 with guitarist Pete Townshend, vocalist Roger Daltrey, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. Engineering a sound of their own, The Who rose to international fame quickly following a string of top ten hit singles and five top-selling albums. Originally known as The Detours, The Who were greatly influenced by American blues and country music which was evident in their first singles entitled “I Can’t Explain” and “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere.”
In 1965 The Who released their first album entitled My Generation which reached No. 5 on the UK charts and included The Who’s most popular songs “My Generation” and “The Kids Are Alright.” In 1966 The Who released their second album entitled A Quick One in the UK and Happy Jack in the US which spawned the hit singles “Happy Jack” and “A Quick One While He’s Away.” The Who’s third album The Who Sell Out featured the single “I Can See for Miles.”
In 1968 The Who released their full-length rock opera entitled Tommy which catapulted The Who to superstar status in the US. In the ‘70s The Who released the chart topping albums Live at Leeds, Who’s Next, Quadrophenia, The Who by Numbers and Who Are You which was followed by the death of drummer Keith Moon. In 1980 The Who released the albums Face Dances and It’s Hard before the band decided to call it quits.
Since the Who’s farewell tour in 1982, The Who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Soldiering on after the 2002 death of bassist John Entwistle, The Who released its 11th album Endless Wire in 2006, featuring the singles “It’s Not Enough” and “Tea & Theatre.” Do not miss the Who on its 2008 North American Tour when you order The Who tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
