Big East Conference Tickets

The Big East Conference was founded in 1979 to focus primarily on basketball. Ten years later the Big East expanded to become serious competitors in NCAA football. In 2003 Big East football suffered a major blow when three big football schools left for the ACC. Soon the Big East welcomed five programs from Conference-USA. Since re-building the Big East has once again emerged as a formidable conference with championship teams in both football and basketball.

Of the 17 Big East member schools eight are football members and compete at the top level of NCAA football. All eight of the Big East football members have played in bowl games and seven of the eight have been ranked in the Top 25 since 2003. Football greats like Johnny Unitas, Mike Ditka, and Dan Marino all hailed from Big East programs. Big East fans are thrilled that South Florida, Rutgers, Connecticut and Cincinnati are bringing football glory back to the Big East.

On the court the Big East has a total of 40 Final Four appearances and 10 National Championships through 2008, the third most titles all-time behind the Big Ten and Pac-10. Fifteen of the Big East member schools have appeared in the NCAA Final Four, the most of any conference. In 2006 and 2008 the Big East sent eight teams to the NCAA Tournament, setting a NCAA record. Players such as Ray Allen, Richard “Rip” Hamilton, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Kenyon Martin, Dwayne Wade and Allen Iverson all played for Big East teams.
