Since 1999, the Western Athletic Conference has been in a constant state of change. Members have left for different conferences and new members have been welcomed into the wild WAC. Through all of this change the high level of competition has remained the same, firmly establishing the WAC as one of the most competitive NCAA conferences in the nation.

The member institutions of the WAC have developed strong talent including players such as Jim McMillan, Randy Troutman, Terry Bradshaw Willie Roaf, and many more. Every year the WAC sends three teams to bowl games across the nation. Recently, WAC teams have seen success on a national level, including the undefeated 2006 Boise State Broncos and the 2007 Hawaii Warriors.

College-sports fans are treated to ferocious action when the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech and the Bulldogs of Fresno State face off in the Battle of the Bone.
