Taking their name from the villain in the ‘60s movie Barbarella, Duran Duran formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978. Duran Duran’s lead singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor made a name for themselves as a fashion-forward dance band along with contemporaries Spandau Ballet and Wham! Duran Duran’s youthful look propelled them to success as teen pop idols.
Duran Duran found success on its first self-titled album with the third single “Girls on Film.” The racy music video ignited a controversy that shot Duran Duran to the mainstream. Duran Duran’s second album Rio created a firestorm of success with the hit singles “Rio,” “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Save a Prayer.” Duran Duran became undeniable MTV icons, embarking on sell out world tours. Duran Duran’s song “A View to a Kill” was the only Bond theme to reach No. 1on Billboard.
In an effort to move past the teen idol image, a more adult Duran Duran released Notorious in 1986. Notorious featured a different, more bass heavy sound and produced the hits “Notorious” and “Skin Trade.” In 1993, Duran Duran released its second self-titled album also known as The Wedding Album; it produced two hit singles “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone.” Duran Duran embarked on a massive world tour in support of The Wedding Album, reaching into the Middle East, South America and South Africa.
Duran Duran is currently on the road in support of its 2007 album Red Carpet Massacre. Duran Duran was joined by hit-making producer Timbaland and his frequent collaborator Justin Timberlake on two of Red Carpet Massacre tracks “Falling Down” and “Nite-Runner.” Duran Duran is currently trekking across Europe, so order your Duran Duran tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
