Popular 1980s R&B group New Edition inspired five teenagers at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts to pursue their musical dreams. Marc Nelson, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary united to form Unique Attraction. The group eventually underwent a name change to become known as Boyz II Men, after a New Edition song.
Michael Bivins was impressed with Boyz II Men’s a cappella performance of New Edition’s “Can You Stand the Rain,” and Boyz II Men was signed to Motown Records. Marc Nelson left before the group began recording. The singles “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” from Boyz II Men’s debut album Cooleyhighharmony put Boyz II Men on the mainstream music map.
Boyz II Men recorded five No. 1 R&B hits between 1992 and 1997. “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” and “One Sweet Day” broke records for length of time at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. With the single “On Bended Knee” Boyz II Men became the third artist behind Elvis and The Beatles to replace themselves at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band kept the hits rollin’ in with “4 Seasons of Loneliness,” “Song for Mama,” and “Thank You In Advance.”
Sixty million albums sold makes Boyz II Men the most successful male R&B group of all time. Boyz II Men also received a Grammy nomination for 2007 album Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville, which let the group put its own spin on the classics that inspired them. With a new album in the works, Boyz II Men will be touring the world in 2009. Order your premium Boyz II Men tickets securely from OnlineTickets.com today!
