It was Brian McKnight’s brother Claude McKnight who inspired Brian McKnight to pursue a career in music. When Claude McKnight’s gospel group Take 6 signed its first deal, Brian McKnight saw first hand that it is possible. That confidence encouraged Brian McKnight to push his demo to major record labels, and at the age of 19 Brian McKnight signed a deal with Mercury Records.
The musical scene welcomed Brian McKnight with the 1992 release Brian McKnight. From there, Brian McKnight shot up the charts and released hit after hit. Superstar artists including P. Diddy, Nelly, Mary J. Blige, Kirk Franklin, Mariah Carey, Josh Groban, and Christina Aguilera have each worked with Brian McKnight over the course of his memorable career.
The 2006 album Ten showcases Brian McKnight’s true versatility. From the cocky, self-assured “Used to Be My Girl” to the politically charged ode to the troops “Red, White & Blue” featuring Country-music act Rascal Flatts, Brian McKnight re-established himself as one of the top acts in R&B. Ten is rounded out with a guest appearance from soulful singer Jill Scott on “More Than Just a Thang”.
Selling more than 16 million records and building an impressive discography, Brian McKnight has become one of the crown jewels of Soul and R&B. As a certified quadruple-threat with his radio show The Brian McKnight Show, acting roles on Broadway, and a spot as a reality star on The Celebrity Apprentice, Brian McKnight shows no signs of slowing down.
