Born Trevor Smith in Brooklyn, New York, Busta Rhymes got his first start as a rapper with the 1990s rap group Leaders of the New School. Releasing two studio albums, A Future Without a Past and T.I.M.E., Busta Rhymes broke through with his first solo album in 1996 entitled The Coming. The Coming became a smash hit, peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart and reaching No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Busta Rhymes’ first studio album also spawned the chart-topping hit single “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check.”
When Disaster Strikes, the second studio album released by Busta Rhymes, witnessed similar chart success as The Coming, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. When Disaster Strikes spawned the singles “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” “Rhymes Galore” and “Dangerous.” Busta Rhymes leaped into whole new levels of success with 1998’s E.L.E.(Extinction Level Event): The Final World Front, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the hit single “What’s It Gonna Be?!,” featuring Janet Jackson.
In 2006, Busta Rhymes returned to the music scene with the smash album The Big Bang, which featured production by Dr. Dre along with guest appearances from Nas and Raekwon. Notable for the hit singles “Touch It” and “I Love My Chick,” featuring some of hip-hop’s best like will.i.am and Kelis. The Big Bang reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became one of 2006’s most acclaimed albums.
