The Charleston, South Carolina-native Darius Rucker grew up on the soulful sounds of R&B greats Otis Redding, Al Green, and Gladys Knight. Their influence was evident in Darius Rucker’s work with the successful Pop/Rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, known for their hit songs “Hold My Hand” and “Only Wanna Be with You.” Darius Rucker honed his vocal skills as both the Hootie frontman and as a solo R&B and Country artist to boot.
In 2001, Darius Rucker launched a solo career with his work on the album The Return of Mongo Slade, but the album was never released due to contractual changes. After jumping ship for a new record label, Darius Rucker explored his R&B influences on the 2002 album Back to Then, which featured all the songs that were slated to be released on The Return of Mongo Slade. Hootie & the Blowfish would pick back up again, releasing a couple of albums in the early 2000s and selling a slew of concert tickets just like old times.
Darius Rucker would revisit his solo career, venturing into Country music with the 2008 album Learn to Live. For the first time as a solo artist, Darius Rucker would chart a hit single in “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” – a song he co-wrote lyrics for with Clay Mills. The song soared to the top of the Billboard Country chart, making Darius Rucker the first African American artist since Charley Pride in 1983 to chart a No. 1 Country hit.
The hits keep coming for Darius Rucker as the follow-up “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” is another Top 20 single. Fans can catch Darius Rucker on tour now, performing in amphitheatres, arenas, casinos, and other venues around the nation.
