Thanks to the landmark band Pantera, the Metal scenes of Texas and Louisiana were flourishing in the 1990s. With styles ranging from Thrash and Sludge to Alternative Metal, the Southern Metal scene was influencing the world over. In this environment of innovation and change, Down was born. Joining members of the biggest bands in the scene, Pantera, Crowbar, Corrosion of Conformity, and Eyehategod, Down became the biggest supergroup in the South since Lynyrd Skynyrd.

After passing around their new music in the form of demo tapes, Down released their first album NOLA. Down drew a lot of attention thanks to vocalist Phil Anselmo’s platinum-selling iconic band Pantera. Songs like “Lifer”, “Stone The Crow”, and “Bury Me In Smoke” gave Down an identity all its own. Thanks to powerful live shows and great singles, NOLA would go platinum, even if it was intended as only a side project/jam band.

After a long layoff due to dedications to their main bands, the members of Down took a while to come back together. After sequestering themselves in a house for several weeks Down produced Down II. A more Bluesy album than NOLA, Down II went away from Sludge with songs like “Learn From This Mistake” and “Ghosts Along The Mississippi”. Down took on the Katrina Disaster and the death of Dimebag Darrell with Down III. Both events were considered enormous losses to Southern Culture.

Down is back in 2009 with their album Down IV. In the meantime, Down will be on tour to support their more than 10 years of music history.
