Flo Rida, born Tamar Dillard, toured with the early ‘90s rap group 2 Live Crew during his teens. After touring with 2 Live Crew, Flo Rida started his own rap group Groundhoggz, who enjoyed local success and toured with rap legend Scarface. Soon after, Flo Rida began working with independently owned music label Poe Boy Entertainment.
Flo Rida released his debut EP entitled Florida Streets in November of 2003. In 2006, after officially signing with Poe Boy Entertainment, Flo Rida began networks with other Florida-area rappers such as Rick Ross, Trina, and Trick Daddy. It wasn’t long before Flo Rida signed with Atlantic Records and would begin his reign over the radio airwaves.
In March 2008, Flo Rida released his debut album Mail On Sunday, which charted at No. 3 in its first week out. Mail On Sunday, which spawned Flo Rida’s chart-topping single “Low,” also features artists including Trey Songz, Sean Kingston, and Rick Ross. “Elevator” – produced by Timbaland – was the second single off the album, while the third single “In the Ayer” features will.i.am. of the Black Eyed Peas.
