Glen Campbell is a living legend and it’s safe to say that you’ve heard him before and probably didn’t even know it! Glen Campbell achieved immortality with hits like “Rhinestone Cowboy” and “Southern Nights.” Hailing from Delight, Arkansas, Glen picked up the guitar at a young age without learning to read music. Glen Campbell’s big break came when he joined the ‘50s surf band The Champs and produced the famous “Tequila.”
Glen Campbell was part of a notorious set of studio musicians known as The Wrecking Crew, who have been heard on countless recordings by famous artists such as Bobby Darin, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and on Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” recordings. Glen Campbell is also known for his short stint with The Beach Boys in which he filled in on bass and vocal harmonies for an ailing Brian Wilson.
As a solo artist Glen Campbell proved equally successful. In the late ‘60s, Glen Campbell released a string of hugely successful songs such as Grammy-winning “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” and “Gentle On My Mind” along with “I Wanna Live” and “Wichita Linemen.” By the ‘70s, Glen Campbell had released his biggest hit to date, “Rhinestone Cowboy,” hosted his own variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, and continued his work as a session musician.
