I saw JP and Whitesnake last night in San Antonio. The show was lights out and each band could have played for three hours. Two thumbs up!

Stuttgart show. Testament was OK-not my cup of tea but the sound was good and their musicianship was excellent, even for thrash-metal. Megadeth kicked butt- great sound, high energy, good crowd interaction. The best part of the night. Judas Priest- sorry guys, I was looking forward to seeing and hearing you, but you were unwatchable for a couple of reasons: 1. Rob Halford. Didn't come near the front of the stage for the first 1/2 hour of the show. KK was obviously on coke- I was close enough to the stage to see the remains in his nostrils. Seemed to me like the guys were just going through the motions. 2. Sound was TERRIBLE. After the first song, for some reason, the sound guys kicked up the drums. Vocals were impossible to hear. Guitar leads just squeeking out. Drums were PAINFULLY loud. 3. Crowd was really drunk/high by the time Priest took to the floor. Go figure, since the Porsche Arena was selling mainly pitcher-sized beers. The idiot standing next to me was alternately smoking a joint and trying to get his 10 year old son up on his shoulders while barely able to stand himself. Not a good thing. The crowd was wasted, the mosh pit interfered with those of us just interested in the music and I ended up walking out. two stars for Testament. Four stars for Megadeth, two stars for Priest.

The “Metal Gods” Judas Priest is often looked at as the father of heavy metal. The versatile voice of Rob Halford can go from soaring melodies to ear-shattering screeches and has yet to be duplicated. Proving that extreme music doesn’t need to sell out to be successful, Judas Priest has built an incomparable discography, sold over 30 million albums, and formed an entire genre of music.
Judas Priest’s first few albums produced fan favorites like “The Ripper”and “Genocide” but did not make an impact on the charts. The trio of albums Sin After Sin, Stained Glass, and Killing Machine/Hell Bent for Leather would lay the foundation for heavy metal to develop from. The next album British Steel featured hits “Breakin’ The Law,” “Living After Midnight,” and “Heading Out to the Highway” that got Judas Priest on the radio and new fans and ticketholders in seats.
Screaming for Vengeance gave Judas Priest a platinum record boasting standout tracks “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’” and “Electric Eye.” After flirting with Glam, Judas Priest struck back with Painkiller – one of Judas Priest’s best works. Rob Halford and Judas Priest parted ways after Painkiller, and the band dropped from most fans’ radars; Rob Halford returned in 2003, and Judas Priest was alive again.
Even as a band known for pushing the envelope, Judas Priest released its most experimental album to date with 2008’s Nostradamus. Metal fans around the globe got a special treat thanks to Judas Priest sharing the stage with the likes of Motorhead and Heaven and Hell. 2009 will be a year to remember in the music world as Judas Priest joins forces with Whitesnake for a slew of arena tour dates.
