Los Lobos (The Wolves) are a Chicano rock band from East Los Angeles, which was formed by keyboardist Steve Berlin, guitarist Louie Perez, bassist Conrad Lozano, vocalist David Hidalgo and guitarist Cesar Rosas in 1973. Los Lobos released a charity album Si Se Puede! (Yes We Can), which benefited the United Farm Workers of America in 1976. Los Lobos released Los Lobos Del Este De Los Angeles (Just Another band from East L.A.) in 1978.
Los Lobos released the critically acclaimed How Will the Wolf Survive? in 1984. The album was ranked 30th on Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Best albums of the 1980s. In 1987, Los Lobos would record two albums; one was a Los Lobos original called By the Light of the Moon and the other was a collection of Ritchie Valens covers for the La Bamba soundtrack. Los Lobos’ cover of the song “La Bamba” became their first No. 1 single.
Los Lobos found themselves opening for artists Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead in the early 1990s. Los Lobos contributed a cover of “Bertha” to the Grateful Dead tribute album Deadicated. Los Lobos once again scored a film soundtrack, this time it was the 1995 Robert Rodriguez film Desperado, starring Antonio Banderas. In 1992, Los Lobos released the bluesy album Kiko, followed by Colossal Head in 1996.
In 2004, Los Lobos released their 11th album The Ride, featuring notable guest appearances by Tom Waits on "Kitate," Elvis Costello on "A Matter of Time," and Mexican rock band Café Tacuba on "La Venganza de Los Pelados.” In 2006, Los Lobos released Town and the City.
