Formed in 1999, band members Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, Troy Sanders, and Brett Hinds make up the sludge metal group Mastodon. In 2001, Mastodon released their first EP entitled Lifesblood that featured the songs “Hail to Fire” and “Shadows That Move”. Shortly afterward, Mastodon released their first full-length studio album Remission, which included the track “March of the Fire Ants”.

In 2004, Mastodon released their second studio album entitled Leviathan. Leviathan, a concept-album based on the novel Moby Dick, was awarded album of the year by four magazines. Leviathan included the track “Blood and Thunder” and featured the artists Neil Fallon and Scott Kelly. Following the release of the Leviathan, Mastodon went on tour in Europe with Slipknot, Slayer, and Hatebreed.

In 2005, Mastodon released The Call of the Mastodon, a compilation of their earlier works. Mastodon also released a mild documentary of their concerts entitled The Workhorse Chronicles that was released in 2006. Mastodon later released a cover of Metallica’s “Orion” for a special CD made in Metallica’s honor.

Mastodon’s latest album Blood Mountain was released in late 2006. The first single from Blood Mountain was “Capillarian Crest” which later went on to find its place on Rolling Stone’s list of best songs in 2006. Mastodon is currently on tour alongside Disturbed and Slipknot as part of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival.
