Frankie Beverly got his start as a musician touring with the 1960s R&B band The Silhouette; however, Frankie Beverly’s breakthrough came with the formation of The Butlers in the latter part of the 1960s. After his minor successes with both The Silhouette and The Butlers, Frankie Beverly set out to form his own Philadelphia-based band.

Maze, then known as Raw Soul, witnessed nominal success until R&B king Marvin Gaye invited Maze on tour with him, launching the band into superstardom. Maze quickly became one of the most popular R&B bands of the 1970s, pioneering the quiet-storm genre. At the forefront of Maze’s success was Frankie Beverly – Maze’s lead vocalist, who is credited for fueling Maze’s success throughout the ‘70s and into the '80s.

Frankie Beverly continues to spread the sound that popularized both Maze and the R&B genre by touring both solo and with the other members of Maze. In addition, Maze recently released a two-disc anthology album entitled Anthology and a greatest hits album entitled Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly: Greatest Hits.
