Named after a quote in a Virginia Woolf story called “The Mark on the Wall,” indie rockers Modest Mouse have been tearing up the indie music scene since 1993. Modest Mouse is an amalgam of musicians from other indie groups from The Smiths and 764-Hero to Black Heart Procession and The Helio Sequence. They have often been associated with bands like Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, The Pixies and Rilo Kiley.
Hailing from Issaquah, Washington, Modest Mouse was formed by lead vocalist/guitarist Isaac Brock. Modest Mouse’s breakthrough album The Lonesome Crowded West in 1997 earned the band a cult following and helped define indie rock in the mid-‘90s. The Lonesome Crowded West also helped Modest Mouse snag a contract with Epic Records for an opportunity to record another album.
In 2000 Modest Mouse released The Moon and Antarctica featuring the mildly popular “3rd Planet” and “Gravity Rides Everything.” Overall, the album was appreciated in the underground and in mainstream groups. Modest Mouse enjoyed a more mainstream success with their following platinum album Good News for People Who Love Bad News which spawned the hits “Float On” and “Ocean Breathes Salty.”
In 2002, Modest Mouse toured with other great indie bands such as The Flaming Lips, Cake and De La Soul on the Unlimited Sunshine tour. We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank hit the shelves in 2007, reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, and boasted the smash single “Dashboard” to boot. Modest Mouse has announced a 2008 tour this June featuring R.E.M. and other great indie bands, so order Modest Mouse tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
