Nas began his solo career as a hip-hop artist when he was contracted under Columbia at the age of 19. Nas released his debut album Illmatic in 1994, which eventually became known as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Illmatic featured appearances by Q-tip, AZ, and Nas’ father, jazz musician Olu Dara. “Halftime” was the largest single off the album Illmatic.
With pressure from the label to produce more radio-friendly sounds without jeopardizing his street credibility, Nas released It Was Written in 1996. It Was Written featured the more mainstream, mafia-influenced sound of the day. Nas’s next album The Firm was released as part of the hip-hop supergroup, which also contained Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature Present.
Nas released his next solo single I am… in 1999. I am… included the songs “Nas Is Like” and “Hate Me Now” featuring Diddy. Later that year, Nas released his next album Nastradamus, which released the hit “You Owe Me” that was produced by Timbaland and featured Ginuwine. In 2001, Nas released the album entitled Stillmatic, which spawned the songs “Got Ur Self A…” and “One Mic”.
At the end of 2002, Nas released God’s Son which went on to become named the best album of the year. God’s Son featured the song “Made You Look” and the single “I Can” – Nas’ largest song to date. In the years to come, Nas would release studio albums Street Discipline and Hip Hop Is Dead. With Nas’ latest album is set for release in July 2008, Nas is currently on tour in promotion of the untitled album, so be sure to check out hip-hop legend Nas in concert when you order Nas tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
