In the early 1980s guitarist Michael Wilton, drummer Scott Rockenfield, guitarist Chris DeGarmo and bassist Eddie Jackson enlisted the help of singer Geoff Tate. The five musically inclined Seattle natives united to form The Mob. The Mob hired a manager and became known as Queensryche. After a short tour, Queensryche enlisted the help of producer James Guthrie who’d worked with Judas Priest and Pink Floyd. The result was Queensryche’s moderately successful album The Warning.
Hard work and patience began to pay off for Queensryche. Following successful tours with bands including Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses and Metallica, Queensryche released their fourth album Empire which sold over three million copies in the US and rose to No. 7 on the charts. The single “Silent Lucidity” became Queensryche’s first Top 10 hit. The singles “Sign of the Times” and “You” from 1997’s Hear in the Now received substantial airplay in the late 1990s.
In 2004 Queensryche excited fans with a tour and a follow-up to their 1988 concept album Operation: Mindcrime. Following the release of Operation: Mindcrime II, Queensryche released a greatest hits album Sign of the Times and Take Cover, an album of Queensryche covering songs by U2, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. Current members of Queensryche include Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, guitarist Mike Stone, Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield.
After selling over 20 million albums across the globe Queensryche is on a nationwide tour for summer 2008. The tour will include a stop at the four-day festival Rock the Bayou, where Queensryche will be headlining. With socially conscious lyrics in tow, Queensryche is coming to an arena near you.
