from 11 years old I was waiting to see Raphael, and 30 years later 4 times I was in his concerts, and could't wait to see and listen again. I love Raphael!

Raphael, the incredible genius! I remeber him when a young 18 year old Spanish singer was visiting Mexico! singing with such cnnecting passion, full dominion of the stage, his gestures, unique! his incredible voice and style createed a "Raphaelism" he was imposible to forget to those that hear and see him once... after 50 years continues the best!

I've known Raphael since the 70's, and can't wait to see him again tonight at the "james knight center". also met him in person and he is just "fantastic" in person and on stage !!! I love him !!!

He has been my idol since I was 10 years old. I know his songs by heart. I have seen all his movies. He is THE BEST!

zzzzi have been watching and listening to him since I as 9, in Puerto Rico and the US. He is a dynamic performer. He gave me goose bumps!!!!

wish he would come to the US...i would go see him in a heartbeat!

Raphael started everything, before Raphael all we had were groups singing other countries hits with bad translations in Spanish, everybody wanted to be just like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but Raphael just was himself and wasnt afraid to be himself a true representation of a spanish man romantic, dramatic and was never afraid to even allow himself to cry and be real, most important he was and is the real thing and incredible voice and an incredible entertainer, I will never be able to afford to see in concert, unless maybe he does a condert in Arizona or Vegas, I definetly be there, Iam just happy he is back somewhere. Ana B. in Arizona

the best singer yet!

Raphael was born Rafael Martos Sánchez on May 5, 1943 in Linares, Jaén, Spain. Starting in childhood, Raphael was a singer and even won “Best Child Voice” in a contest in Salzburg, Austria. In 1966, Raphael released his first album Cuando Tu No Estas the soundtrack to the film of the same name in which Raphael starred. That same year, Raphael performed what would become his signature song “Yo Soy Aquél” at the Eurovision Song Contest, winning seventh place.
Raphael continued acting, starring in Digan Lo Que Digan in 1967, El Golfo and El Angel in 1969, Sin un Adios in 1970 and Volveré a Nacer in 1972. Raphael started to cross over to Japanese and American audiences in the early 1970s. This was helped by Raphael’s dual appearances on the Ed Sullivan show in 1970, where he sang "Maybe," "When Love is Around" and "The Sound of the Trumpet."
In the 1980s, Raphael had hits with the songs “¿Qué Tal Te Va Sin Mí?," "Como Yo Te Amo," "En Carne Viva" and "Estar Enamorado." In 1988, Raphael’s album Apariencias Enganan contained the popular singles “Toco Madera” and “Siempre Estás Diciendo Que Te Vas.” In 1992, Raphael had a worldwide Top 5 hit with “Escándalo” from his album Ave Fenix. Raphael had equal success with the song “Se Muere Por Mi La Nina” from his 1994 album Fantasia.
Raphael has released 23 albums since 1988 including his 1998 self-titled album, 2001’s Maldito Raphael and 2007’s Cerca de Ti. Raphael released his latest greatest hits collection 40 Años en Mexico in 2008. The collection spans his entire 40-year career going back to “Yo Soy Aquél” and “Escándalo.” Raphael fans can see the legendary Spanish singer performing his greatest hits on a brand new tour.
