R.E.M.

Details

From an indie cult band to superstar-rock-group ranks, R.E.M. has often been hailed as the pioneer of the Alternative Music scene. Singer Michael Stipe utilizes one of the most unique voices in music to lead the both brooding and light-hearted music with Peter Buck’s trendsetting guitar adding to the mix. With a strong underground following and constant airplay from college radio R.E.M. built a strong collection of independent music.

Their debut album Murmur started it all, with the single “Radio Free Europe” rockin’ the airwaves. Reckoning spawned the hit single “So. Central Rain,” while R.E.M.’s next album Fables of the Reconstruction was somewhat of a departure from R.E.M.’s standard sound. Lifes Rich Pageant and Document continued to redefine R.E.M.’s sound, bringing in more political-based themes. Document contained R.E.M’s breakout hit “The One I Love” which became R.E.M.’s best-known song.

R.E.M.’s first major-label album Green gained notoriety with the No. 1 single “Orange Crush” before R.E.M. released their true breakout album Out of Time, powered by the No.1 modern rock single "Losing My Religion." Out of Time went multi-platinum in several countries and won three Grammy awards. The album Automatic for the People featured singles like “Man on the Moon” and “Everybody Hurts” and was the second piece of R.E.M.’s mainstream success.

As the music scene changed. R.E.M. continued their dominance of Alternative Music, keeping their relevance and revolutionary sound as many of the genre’s bands faded away. Still one of the most popular bands on the planet, R.E.M. has embarked on yet another tour in 2008. Order your R.E.M. tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
