The pop-rock band Rooney formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2000. Rooney is fronted by actor, guitarist and lead singer Robert Carmine who is joined by guitarist Taylor Locke, drummer Ned Brower, keyboardist Louie Stevens and bassist Matt Winter. Robert Carmine appeared in two films by his cousin Sophia Coppola: The Virgin Suicides and Lick the Star. Robert Carmine’s last film role was in the 2001 Disney movie The Princess Diaries.
Rooney released its self-titled debut album in 2003 on Geffen Records. The album featured the songs "Sorry Sorry" and "I'm a Terrible Person,” both of which were performed on the FOX TV show The O.C.. Rooney’s single “Blueside” was picked up by cable music channels after appearing in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 soundtrack. The album’s second single “I’m Shakin’” was similarly successful after appearing on the ABC soap opera All My Children.
In 2006, Rooney re-emerged and took the opening slot on American Idol Kelly Clarkson’s summer tour. Rooney released its follow-up to its 2003 debut album in 2007. Calling the World featured the band creating an album cover by the Doors. The album broke into the top 50 of the Billboard 200 and had found success with the single “When Did Your Heart Go Missing,” which received heavy airplay on cable music channels.
Calling the World featured Dhani Harrison, son of the late Beatles guitarist George Harrison, on the title track. Rooney is now on the road touring the U.S. in support of Calling the World.
