Combining the brutal riffs, lyrics, and drumming of Slayer with Industrial and images of GWAR and Mushroomhead, Slipknot shocked fans since their arrival on the Des Moines, Iowa scene. Slipknot’s debut EP Mate.Kill.Feed.Repeat. quickly became a cult classic. With many brutal shows paving the way, Slipknot quickly caught on with Metal fans. Eventually, Slipknot would receive a coveted spot on Ozzfest 1999, a move that would break their career wide open.

Debut album Slipknot took a while to catch on, but buzz quickly spread via word-of-mouth. “Wait and Bleed” became the first video, a bizarre mix of sing-a-long melody and mosh-pit brutality. “Spit It Out” became another single and is still a centerpiece of Slipknot concerts. Songs “(Sic)” and “Surfacing” are the traditional opening and closing songs for Slipknot setlists. Thanks to a brutal touring schedule and word-of-mouth, Slipknot would eventually go double-platinum.

Slipknot followed up with album IOWA. “My Plague” and “Left Behind” were released as singles. Songs from IOWA that became essential concert songs include “Disasterpiece” and “The Heretic Anthem”. After a short hiatus, Slipknot returned with perhaps their best album Vol. 3(The Subliminal Verses). The album contained a more experimental side, with a pair of acoustic songs in “Circle” and “Vermillion Pt 2”. Hit single “Duality” was joined by songs “The Blister Exists” and “Three Nil” as Slipknot concert favorites.

With three-straight platinum albums, Slipknot released live album 9.0 Live to capitalize on one of the best live acts in music. The 2008 album All Hope Is Gone was a best-seller and hosted such songs as ‘Dead Memories”, “Snuff,” and “Psychosocial”. Slipknot toured the world in 2009 and sold out shows while opening for Metallica or headlining with Coheed & Cambria.
