At an early age, Snoop Dogg took part in the church choir, played piano, and tried his hand at rapping. After a few tumultuous years, the Long Beach native Snoop Dogg would clean up his act and hone his musical talent. Working with producer Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg contributed the theme song for the movie Deep Cover and provided his distinctive vocal flow on the good doctor’s landmark album The Chronic.
In 1993, Snoop Dogg hit it big in the Hip Hop/Rap scene with debut album Doggystyle, which helped bring G-Funk rap to the mainstream. Singles “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” and “Gin and Juice” flooded the radio airwaves and shot toward the top of the charts. In November 1996, Snoop Dogg’s sophomore effort Tha Doggfather dropped but did not sell as well as its predecessor.
With a signature nasal rap style, Snoop Dogg has fashioned an impressive collection of hits, including “Groupie Luv,” “Doggy Dogg World,” “Still a G Thing.” Snoop Dogg is also known for his inventive and popular collaborations, joining forces with Justin Timberlake on “Signs,” Pharell on “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” Mariah Carey on “Say Something,” Pussycat Dolls on “Buttons,” and Akon on “I Wanna Love You,” just to name a few.
Snoop Dogg has made countless on-screen appearances, including movies Half Baked, Starsky and Hutch and television appearances on Monk and Entourage. Snoop Dogg also starred in his own reality TV program entitled Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood. In 2008, Snoop Dogg toured with California rockers 311 on the Summer Unity Tour, and the iconic West Coast rapper/lyricist will return to the road in 2009 for a packed schedule of tour dates.
