Boasting some of the most complex and darkly ironic lyrics in music history, Steely Dan has amazed and sometimes confused listeners since the ‘70s. Steely Dan brings a perfectionist’s ear to the recording studio, with no favor being placed on one instrument. In a Steely Dan recording, there is no such thing as an insignificant chord, note, or line, and the resulting music is a fabric of deep lyrics woven with painstakingly complex instrumentals.
As the brainchild of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan started its career in 1972 with the landmark Can’t Buy a Thrill. A pair of singles “Do it Again” and “Reelin’ in the Years” drew in radio audiences, while the follow up record Countdown to Ecstasy produced the cult hit “My Old School.” Steely Dan’s third album Pretzel Logic returned more to their original form, and the hit “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” became Steely Dan’s biggest hit and highest chart-topper.
Guitar factored more prominently into Steely Dan’s next album The Royal Scam, which featured one of Steely Dan’s more modern favorites “Don’t Take Me Alive.” The follow-up record was Aja, which was Steely Dan’s best-selling – and perhaps best – album, featuring singles “Peg,” “Deacon Blues,” and “Josie.” Gaucho would be Steely Dan’s last studio album for 20 years after the band broke up over personal conflicts.
Steely Dan reunited in 2000 to produce the commercial and critical success Two Against Nature. With single “Cousin Dupree” leading the way, Two Against Nature would go double platinum and win Steely Dan four Grammy Awards. To support their long history of work, Steely Dan is embarking on a 2008 summer tour not to be missed, so order Steely Dan tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
