Born Stephanie Lynn Nicks in Phoenix, Arizona, on May 26, 1948, Stevie Nicks met future collaborator Lindsey Buckingham in high school. After a failed attempt with the band Fritz, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham formed Buckingham Nicks in 1973. While the self-titled album did not sell well, it did attract the attention of the band Fleetwood Mac, who invited the pair to join. In 1975, Fleetwood Mac released its first self-titled album with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham at the helm.
Fleetwood Mac peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the songs “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.” Fleetwood Mac released the groundbreaking album Rumors in 1977 and sold well over 30 million copies worldwide. Rumors featured the classic Fleetwood Mac songs “Dreams,” the band’s first No. 1 single, “Don’t Stop” and “The Chain.” Rumors won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1978.
In 1981, Stevie Nicks released her first solo album, Bella Donna in 1981, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 4 million copies. The album featured collaborations with Tom Petty on the song “Stop Dragging My Heart Around” and Don Henley on the song “Leather and Lace.” Bella Donnaalso featured the classic Stevie Nicks song “Edge of Seventeen.” Stevie Nicks’ second solo album, Wild at Heart featured a second Tom Petty collaboration “I Will Run to You” and the hit single “Stand Back.”
Stevie Nicks released four more solo successful albums including 2001’s Trouble in Shangri-La. In the same time period, Stevie Nicks appeared on six more original Fleetwood Mac albums including 2003’s Say You Will and two live albums, 1998’s The Dance and 2004’s Live in Boston.
