Tom Waits

Details

Born in Pomona, California, Tom Waits was destined to leave his mark on American music and the entertainment world at large. Whether Tom Waits shined as a singer/songwriter or an actor on the big screen, fans would soon fall in love with Tom Waits’ gravelly voice, quirky personality, and legendary body of work. Tom Waits returns to the music scene in full force during his 2008 Glitter and Doom Tour set to hit cities throughout Europe and the U.S.

Tom Waits debuted in 1973 with the album Closing Time, which featured a cover of “Ol’ ’55” originally performed by The Eagles. Closing Time boasted bluesy ballads of about love gone wrong coupled with lyrics that focused on hopelessly desperate characters. The album Small Change followed in 1976 and spawned signature Tom Waits tunes “Invitation to the Blues” and “The Piano Has Been Drinking.” Albums to come would not go on to become commercial hits but would earn Tom Waits a legion of adoring fans.

Tom Waits tried his hand as an actor in the ‘80s, appearing in films including The Outsiders and Rumblefish, while earning critical acclaim for a trio of albums, such as the horn and percussion flavored Swordfishtrombones in 1983, Rain Dogs in 1985, and Frank’s Wild Years in 1987. Throughout the ‘90s, Tom Waits continued acting in films like Bram Stoker’s Dracula and garnered Grammy glory for his album Bone Machine.

A lengthy absence from the recording scene led to Tom Waits’ release of Beautiful Maladies (1998) – a “greatest hits” compilation of sorts – before returning with new material on Mule Variations - Grammy winner for “Best Contemporary Folk Album.” In Spring 2002, Tom Waits emerged with both Alice and Blood Money and subsequent tours. The Glitter and Doom Tour in 2008 will undoubtedly feature the best of Tom Waits so order your Tom Waits tickets from OnlineTickets.com today!
