Forming in the early ‘90s, three-time Grammy-winning Alternative Metal band Tool includes drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, and bassist Paul D’Amour, who was later replaced by Justin Chancellor. After signing with Zoo Entertainment in 1992, Tool released the six-track album Opiate, which went platinum and featured the hit singles “Hush” and “Opiate.”
Tool is no stranger to controversy, standing firmly on the issues of censorship, religion, abuse and government control that ripple throughout many of Tool’s lyrics and music videos to boot. In 1993 Tool released its first full-length album entitled Undertow, which went double-platinum and featured the hit singles “Prison Sex,” “Sober” and “Disgustipated.”
In 1996 Tool released its second full-length album entitled AEnima, which went triple-platinum and featured the hit singles “Stinkfist,” “H” and “AEnima.” After a five-year break of doing solo projects, Tool released the box-set album Salival featuring singles “You Lied” and “No Quarter.” In 2006, Tool released its fourth full-length album entitled 10,000 Days with singles “The Pot,” “Jambi,” and “Vicarious.”
Tool has not been much of a touring force in recent years thanks to Maynard James Keenan’s other bands such as A Perfect Circle and Puscifer but has appeared at several huge festivals like the Download Festival in the UK or Cochella in the United States. Even though Maynard James Keenan has plenty of other interests, including his own wine brand, Tool is scheduled to tour in 2009.
