Born Vicente Fernandez Gomez on February 17, 1940, in Huentitan del Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, Vicente Fernandez is better known as “El Rey De Las Rancheras (The King of Ranchera).” Always a hard worker, Vicente Fernandez dropped out of grade school to support his struggling family. Don Vicente held a variety of jobs including shoe-shine boy, waiter and dishwasher. In Vicente Fernandez’s spare time he would sing to cars that were caught in traffic for money.

By the early 1960s, Vicente Fernandez began singing with Mariachi groups in Jalisco including Pepe Mendoza’s band Amanecer as well as Jose Luis Aguilar’s group. After moving to Mexico City, Vicente Fernandez struggled to attract major label attention until 1966 when CBS Mexico granted Don Vicente his first recording contract. Two years later Vicente Fernandez released his debut album La Voz Que Usted Esperaba.

Vicente Fernandez’s hard-working ways have allowed him to release over 100 albums. With Don Vicente’s 1976 release A Tu Salud produced his first mega hit “Volver, Volver.” Vicente Fernandez’s greatest accomplishment came when Don Vicente sold out Mexico’s La Plaza De Toros. This set a trend in the U.S., where Vicente Fernandez sold out Madison Square Garden, a show that included his son and popular singer Alejandro Fernandez.

Among Vicente Fernandez’s honors include a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame and membership to the International Latin Music Hall of Fame. Vicente Fernandez has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and had a string of Top 5 Latin Albums.
