Central Michigan University offers 16 men’s and women’s varsity sports such as basketball, track and field, and cross country. CMU Football has enjoyed recent success after achieving back-to-back conference championships and consecutive bowl appearances. CMU Basketball suffered a slump in 2007 but is gearing up for big wins during the 2008 NCAA season.
With two MAC West Championships under their belt, the Central Michigan Chippewas are hungry for thirds. Last season the Chips achieved an 8-6 regular season record and a stunning 7-1 conference record. CMU has appeared in numerous bowl games including back-to-back showdowns in the Motor City Bowl. QB Dan LeFevour’s return next season will be music to the ears of Chippewas fans everywhere as the Chips make NCAA history in 2008. The Chippewas make their home at Kelly-Shorts Stadium.
CMU Chippewas basketball tied for second in MAC West with Eastern Michigan University. CMU achieved a 14-17 record and an 8-8 conference record. Under Head Coach Ernie Zeigler, the Chips’ game has vastly improved overcoming a 4-24 record only a few years ago. Coach Zeigler hopes that lineup changes as well as an attitude change will turn the team into serious conference champs. CMU basketball makes its home at Daniel P. Rose Arena.
