2008 will be the second year of head coach Rob Akey’s tenure at the University of Idaho. Last season, Akey coached the Vandals to a 1-11 record, the Vandals’ only win coming at home in the Kibbie Dome where they defeated Cal Poly. Returning all 11 of their offensive starters and six starters on defense, the Vandals are looking to escape the bottom rung of the Western Athletic Conference ladder in 2008.
The Idaho Vandals basketball program welcomes Don Verlin as the new head coach. Verlin comes from a winning tradition at Utah State where he played a key role in taking the Utah State Aggies to nine successive post-seasons. Verlin is expected to rebuild the Idaho team that has only won a total of 16 games in the past three seasons. Idaho Vandals fans are confident Verlin will stabilize the ever-fluctuating roster, turn the program around and expel the ghosts of seasons past from the Vandals home court at Cowan Spectrum.
