Through the haze you will see the proud athletes of Northwestern University – the Northwestern Wildcats! Northwestern University is known for being successful in a wide array of sports including lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and of course football and basketball. Northwestern Wildcats football has played in several bowl games over the years as well as making appearances in the basketball postseason, while the Wildcats basketball program continues its ascent in the Big Ten.
Northwestern football is full of rich Wildcats traditions including the jingling of keys before every kickoff and punt. The Wildcats’ chief Big Ten rival is the Illinois State Illini and the teams play annually for the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk. All Northwestern Wildcat football games are played on the Ryan Field, and Wildcats fans won’t want to miss all the winning plays that Coach Pat Fitzgerald draws up on the sidelines.
Northwestern University basketball games are played in the Welsh-Ryan Arena. Wildcats basketball is honored on campus and students flock to the games to cheer on Northwestern Wildcats basketball with the student led cheer group “Wildside.” The current Wildcat coach is former Princeton coach Bill Carmondy who runs the prolific Princeton Offense.
