Fierce and ready to fight for SEC domination, the South Carolina Gamecocks treat fans to a much-improved Garnet and Black game! The University of South Carolina boasts 19 men’s and women’s varsity sports teams, many of which have won several NCAA championships. Gamecock women’s golf has appeared in nine consecutive NCAA tournaments while men’s golf made 12 consecutive NCAA appearances since 1996. Gamecocks Baseball boasts seven consecutive appearances in NCAA tournaments.
USC Football, under Head Coach Steve Spurrier, evened out in the regular season with a 6-6 record. In 2008, USC Gamecocks will return with 17 starting players, including Junior Tommy Beecher who is likely to snag the QB spot when the NCAA season officially begins. Beecher has completed 16 of 25 passes thrown, made two touchdowns and an interception in his Gamecocks career. The Gamecocks play their home games at Williams-Brice Stadium.
New head coach Darrin Horn is shaking Gamecocks basketball up a bit this season. While Horn was at Western Kentucky, he took the Hilltoppers to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Now Horn must work with returning Gamecock players to turn things around for the Gamecocks Basketball team. Guard Devan Downey set a Southeastern Conference record in steals, while forward Mike Holmes continues his defensive prowess. The Gamecocks play their home games at Colonial Center.
