Planned as the final year for head coach Mike Holmgren, the 2008 NFL season was a disaster for the Seattle Seahawks. Usually the unquestioned rulers of the NFC West, injuries to many key players on both sides of the ball enabled the Arizona Cardinals to rampage over the division. Head coach Jim Mora, the hand-picked successor of Mike Holmgren, takes over command of the Seattle Seahawks and has a talent for quickly turning around teams. With a healthy roster and several new additions, the Seattle Seahawks are a Super Bowl caliber team again.
Veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck returns from injury and is the perfect candidate to run the West Coast Offense. Though the offensive line is beaten up, the Seahawks still boast one of the NFL’s best. RB Julius Jones is key to opening up a passing game that features breakout TE John Carlson and several great receivers like Deon Branch and Nate Burleson. Rookie OLB Aaron Curry joins a stout unit and will start with fellow LBs Lofa Tutupu and Leroy Hill. The Seattle Seahawks defense is loaded with other talent including DE Patrick Kerney and CB Marcus Trufant.
The Seattle Seahawks fell from their regular perch atop the NFC West but do have the talent to catch defending champs the Arizona Cardinals. The San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams are also in the division but are coming off bad years and are organizing around new coaches and systems. The stiffest competition will come from the rival Dallas Cowboys, the aggressive Philadelphia Eagles, and the thundering New York Giants, all outside the division.
