Billed as the “Greatest Rodeo on Earth” and the “World Series of Rodeo,” the National Finals Rodeo – or NFR – is the premier championship event of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. The NFR showcases the nation’s top 15 competitors in sevent categories, including bareback riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, and barrel racing (the only event exclusive to women).
Las Vegas will host the 50th annual National Finals Rodeo from Thursday, Dec. 4 to Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008. Rodeo fans are treated to 10-straight days of exciting rodeo action inside the Thomas & Mack Center. Each year, the NFR sells out; this year is no different as upwards of 170 fans are expected to attend the 10-day affair featuring 120 of the top professional cowboys and cowgirls in the sport!
With eight world championship titles (along with gold buckles and saddles) and a record $5.625 million purse at stake, the NFR is sure to be another sold-out affair. In 2007, Texas-native Trevor Brazile came, roped, and conquered as the All-Around World Championship – Brazile’s fifth such title since 1996. Brazile also became the first Triple Crown winner since Roy Cooper in 1983.
