When the WNBA opened its doors to two more teams for the 1999 season, the Minnesota Lynx were formed. The Minnesota Lynx took up residence at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the home of their brother team the Minnesota Timberwolves. Basketball fans were excited to welcome another professional franchise into the city.
After stumbling through the league for three seasons, the Minnesota Lynx made a coaching change and Suzie McConnell Serio entered to turn things around; she did in dramatic fashion. The Minnesota Lynx appeared in the WNBA playoffs in 2003 and 2004 behind the offensive power of Katie Smith. This success faltered when Katie Smith was traded to the Detroit Shock. With the No. 1 pick in the draft in 2006 the Minnesota Lynx drafted LSU standout Seimone Augustus.
Adding Seimone Augustus and Lindsey Harding to the roster has established a solid young foundation for the Minnesota Lynx. A league worst 10-24 record in 2007 kept the Minnesota Lynx out of the playoff race. In 2008 the Minnesota Lynx already have improved greatly and are still in the hunt for a playoff spot.
When WNBA play resumes after the 2008 Olympics, the Minnesota Lynx will be back and better than ever. Fans will watch Lindsey Harding and Olympian Seimone Augustus lead the young Minnesota Lynx in a crucial push for a playoff berth.
