After 30 years, a new production of Equus finally takes the stage in response to public demand. With its dark themes and goose-bump-raising scenes, Equus has blown away millions of theater fans with unexpected plot twists and turns. This season is bound to be Equus’ best yet as the highly anticipated duo Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffith come to perform live on stage.
Equus starts off with a monologue by psychiatrist Martin Dysart where he briefs over Alan Strang’s case. Dysart reveals to the audience he finds treatment of troubled youth to be pointless since the youth are destined to live dull and meaningless lives afterwards. He compares Alan Strang to horses, saying both creatures yearn to be free. Dysart has a difficult time with Alan, but a truth game soon reveals Alan’s past and the development of his abnormal psyche.
Audiences will be perched on the edge of their seat as Dysart slowly unravels the mystery of Alan’s obsession toward horses. Equus’ talented cast of performers seamlessly moves the play to a climactic ending which will have audiences waiting in anticipation for what’s next. Furthermore, Equus’ brilliant staging and dramatic craftsmanship sets this play apart from all other Broadway plays. With only a limited engagement that ends February 2009, audiences need to seize their chance to see Equus.
Described by the New York Times as an “electrifying night of theater,” Equus will dazzle audiences at New York’s Broadhurst Theater in 2008-09.
