Robin Williams: Family & Childhood
Blown in from the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois, Robin Williams was born Robin McLaurin Williams to mother Laura and father Robert. Robin Williams grew up in Michigan and attended Detroit Country Day School before moving cross country to California, where he attended Redwood High School. As a child, Robin Williams was quiet and shy, characteristics he would not overcome until he joined his high school drama department.

Backed by raw talent, Robin Williams outshined his peers and was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard in 1973. Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve were both accepted into the school’s Advanced Program and were in several classes together; the two became close friends. Robin Williams was eventually cast as “Mork” in the TV show, Happy Days. Robin Williams’ performance on the show would lead to a spin-off sitcom, Mork and Mindy. Running from 1978 to 1982, Mork and Mindy was a real hit with fans.
