Clocks Lyrics:
The lights go out and I can’t be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead singing
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can’t be named
A tiger’s waiting to be tamed singing
You are
You are
Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know singing
Come out upon my seas
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I part of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease? Singing
You are
You are
You are
You are
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
You are
You are
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Clocks: Background
“Clocks” was written by Coldplay band members Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin. Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin developed the main piano melody of “Clocks.” Chris Martin’s cryptic lyrics for “Clocks” convey a sense of pain, urgency and regret. The dark lyrics coupled with Chris Martin’s looped piano melody turned “Clocks” into a worldwide hit single for Coldplay. Despite the infectious melody of “Clocks,” Coldplay had originally left “Clocks” off of A Rush of Blood to the Head when the album was presented to Coldplay’s record label Parlaphone. After completing a brief tour, where fans with Coldplay tickets heard new material before it was released, Coldplay headed back into the studio to rework songs that did not make the album including “Clocks.” Now fans with premium Coldplay tickets can hear Coldplay’s most famous single each night on Coldplay’s Viva La Vida tour!
Clocks: Success
Coldplay released “Clocks” as the third single from their second album, 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head; the song was Coldplay’s second single in the US. “Clocks” became a Top 10 Modern Rock song in both the US and UK in 2003. The song “Clocks” won Coldplay the Record of the Year trophy at the 2004 Grammy Awards. “Clocks” has been used in several US TV shows such as The Sopranos, Third Watch and ER. Fans with Coldplay tickets can still see Coldplay perform this unique piano rock song on Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Tour.
