Buckcherry History: (1999-)

Motley Crue - Crue Fest  Motley Crue - Crue Fest

Buckcherry defied the odds, and in the face of critics and modern music, brought Glam Metal back to the masses.

Buckcherry: Birth

Whoever said that Glam Metal was dead didn’t tell Buckcherry. Using a musical sound that harkens back to the Golden Age of Pop Metal, the 1980s, Buckcherry is a musical anomaly. Being the unique purveyors of a generally dead genre, Buckcherry has found themselves in much demand as a touring act with older bands like Motley Crue in Crue Fest.

Buckcherry: The Start

Thanks to a mutual tattoo artist, leader singer Josh Todd met guitarist Keith Nelson. The pair bonded over a love of old school Rock, and a band was eventually formed from the meeting. The name Buckcherry was devised by switching the name of Chuck Berry. Bassist Jonathan Brightman and drummer Devon Glenn would eventually join Josh Todd and Keith Nelson to form the first lineup of Buckcherry.

Buckcherry began to create a lot of buzz by following the same path the Glam Metal bands of old did – constant touring of the Los Angeles Club scene. The Glam feel of the music was quick to draw fans that saw Buckcherry as a welcome alternative to the Nu-Metal and Post Grunge music of the late 1990s. Buckcherry eventually parlayed the underground success into a recording session with modern music producing/mixing engineer Terry Date, who produced modern hits with the likes of Slipknot and Staind.

Buckcherry: Self Titled

Buckcherry released the album Buckcherry in1999, through label DreamWorks Records. The record featured a trio of hit songs. “Lit Up” was the lead-off single and did well in the Rock community. “Check Your Head” and “For the Movies” were also big radio hits on Modern Rock radio stations. Under the strength of the singles and word of mouth, Buckcherry would go on to gold certification. Buckcherry added another guitarist, Yogi, and went back to where they made their bones – touring. The touring schedule lasted non-stop from 1999 through the end of 2000.

Buckcherry: Time Bomb & Breakup

In 2001, Buckcherry released the album Time Bomb. The album kept Buckcherry’s initial energy, with a more polished sound. Time Bomb was not the critical dynamo that Buckcherry was, but it grabbed the love of many fans. “Ridin’” was the only single officially released, but “Porn Star” and ballad “You” became Buckcherry fan favorites. Buckcherry realized their dreams and toured as the opening act for AC/DC. In 2002, Yogi, Jonathan Brightman, and Devon Glenn left Buckcherry and the band folded. Josh Todd and Keith Nelson worked together on a few side projects in the downtime. Josh Todd worked with Velvet Revolver for a short time and flirted with a solo career to boot.

Buckcherry: Return of Buckcherry

After a long break, Josh Todd and Keith Nelson reformed Buckcherry and released album 15 through indie label Eleven Seven Music. 15 was first released in Japan, where Buckcherry has a very strong following, then was released in the US in 2006. “Crazy Bitch” would be the lead-off single and a surprise hit. “Next 2 You” and “Everything” also climbed the charts. Buckcherry had its biggest hit to date with ballad “Sorry.” The emotional song quickly jumped up the charts to No. 9. With the mass of radio play and another strong presence of the internet and word of mouth, 15 went platinum.

Buckcherry: Rockin’ Crue Fest

Thanks to their unique Glam Metal sound and the platinum success of 15, Buckcherry caught the eye of legendary Glam Metal band Motley Crue. After liking the sound and the common lifestyle the bands shared, Buckcherry was invited to join Crue Fest. The massive festival Crue Fest is Motley Crue’s answer to Ozzfest. Crue Fest will mix the icons of decadence with some of music’s newest bands. Besides Motley Crue, Buckcherry will also be joining bands Papa Roach, Trapt, and Sixx A.M. on the Crue Fest bill. Crue Fest will run from the West Coast to the East Coast of the United States, and well into Canada. Tickets to Crue Fest will unite fans from two generations in a celebration of decadence and Rock!
