Papa Roach: History
Papa Roach is an American glam metal post-grunge band from Los Angeles, California. Papa Roach formed when lead singer Jacoby Shaddix met drummer Dave Buckneer on their high school football field. The two started discussing music and soon a bassist and second guitarist who would soon be replaced by Tobin Esperance and Tony Palmero joined Shaddix and Buckneer and formed Papa Roach. The name Papa Roach originates from Jacoby Shaddix’s grandfather whose name is Howard William Roatch, known to Jacoby Shaddix as Papa Roach. After winning several local talent contests Papa Roach was able to produce their first full length album entitled Old Friends from Young Years. Papa Roach was also given the chance to open for alternative rock mainstays such as Incubus, Powerman 5000, and Static-X.
Papa Roach: Breakthrough
Papa Roach’s first album and their efforts on tour caught the attention of Dreamworks Records which financed the album Infest. Papa Roach found mainstream success with Infest and the hit single “Last Resort.” Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” has been featured on numerous television shows such as Smallville and movies like The One starring Jet Li. Infest also featured the singles “Broken Home” and “Between Angels and Insects.” Papa Roach’s Infest peaked at # 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The success of Infest allowed Papa Roach to tour as part of Ozzfest across the United States and the United Kingdom. Lovehatetragedy was Papa Roach’s second studio album and, although it didn’t sell as much as Infest, Lovehatetragedy did mark a drastic change in sound for Papa Roach. Papa Roach’s third album Getting Away With Murder proved more successful with the singles “Getting Away With Murder,” “Scars,” and “Take Me.” Papa Roach promoted the album by going on tour with 311, Slipknot, and Unwritten Law.
Papa Roach: The Paramour Sessions
In 2005, Papa Roach began working on their album The Paramour Sessions in the Paramour Mansion. Papa Roach felt that the spirit of the Paramour Mansion was somehow channeled into their album so they named their album after it. While on tour, Slipknot suggested to Papa Roach that they record their next album in the Paramour Mansion. Other bands to date who have recorded at Paramour Mansion include My Chemical Romance, Elton John, and Beck. The Paramour Sessions was released in September 2006 and enjoyed massive popularity. The Paramour Sessions debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 charts and received plentiful airtime with singles “Reckless,” “To Be Loved,” and “Forever.”
